Big Bear Lake, CA — The field has been narrowed and it is now down to two, vying for the title of Man About Town in the Soroptimist Club’s annual fundraiser which, this year, will continue to benefit efforts to stop teen violence in the Big Bear Valley. Per the service club’s president, Lynn Metrovich-Fowler, “Burger King” Eric Schwartz will not be continuing with his Man About Town campaign–though fellow contenders David Leach and Gabriel Rojas are still committed to the effort, and already have fundraisers planned, all of which lead up to the April 25 finale at Northwoods Resort and the announcement of this year’s Man About Town.
The team behind Gabriel Rojas will kick off their campaign with a series of taco fundraisers at Sonora Cantina; $1 tacos will be available, with proceeds to benefit the Soroptimists’ effort, on March 1, 8 and 12. Rojas will also host an event at Rejoyce in the Village on March 12 and Gran Evento Fiesta at the Convention Center on March 27.
The team behind candidate David Leach has planned for a western hoedown at Union Bank on March 20, as well as a wine tasting event at the Barnstorm Restaurant on April 9.
All proceeds from Man About Town events this year, including funds generated by 2009’s Man About Town Paul Ortuno and fellow candidates Phil Hamilton and Ace Evers, will be directed to local teen violence prevention and intervention and support programs for our youth.
