Big Bear, Ca, December 2, 2011, 12:00pm – Big Bear has turned into a winter wonderland over night with 14 to 16 inches of new snow on the slopes, with extra snow making occurring overnight. According to Big Bear Mountain Resorts, more runs and chairs are expected to open this weekend, making for an excellent weekend on the slopes. New park features are also being created, which will offer freestyle skiers and boarders with more jumps, rails, and boxes to hit. For those of you who want to explore the forest without getting on skis or boards, Goldsmith’s Boardhouse and Bear Valley Bikes sell and rent snowshoes. Snowshoeing is great for beginners, with an easy 10-step program to follow. Take 10 steps, and you can snowshoe, it’s that easy. The Discovery Center does offer snowshoe tours for those that would rather have a guided tour through the forest. In addition to being a fun experience, snowshoeing also is a great form of exercise. Whatever you choose to do this weekend, enjoy the fresh snowfall, and get outdoors.
