CalTrans has been busy at road repairs and paving projects on our mountain highways so, as of today (August 21), flagging does continue on all three routes to and from the Big Bear Valley. On Highway 38, flagging does continue to accommodate paving upgrades, though the project at the base of the mountain, in Mentone, is expected to wrap today. On Highway 18, between Baldwin Lake and the Lucerne Valley, weekday flagging from 8am to 5pm, also for paving, is expected to continue into September. On Highway 18 the front way, from the Big Bear Dam en route to Highway 330, weekday flagging continues from 7am to 5pm, accounting for 15-20 minute delays at the new Big Bear bridge project at the western-most end of Big Bear Lake. Additional blasting is scheduled to take place near the dam next week, though a specific day and time has not yet been named; when blasting does take place, signage will be posted in advance, though additional delays can be expected. So, just to recap, if heading up or down the mountain today, expect delays on all three of our mountain routes up until the 5 o’clock hour.
