The volunteers of the Firefighters Quest for Burn Survivors will be making their annual visit to our local fire departments today. The non-profit group has, for 12 years, visited fire stations in six Southern California counties to collect donations that will be used to provide assistance to those who have been affected by burn injuries. Though Quest operates with a 100% volunteer staff, their efforts during last year’s rally (which also included a day in the Big Bear Valley) generated a record-breaking $249,000. A team from the Firefighters Quest for Burn Survivors will arrive at the Big Bear Airport via Mercy Air helicopter this morning, before first visiting the Big Bear City Fire Department at 10am, during which time the Big Bear City Professional Firefighters Association and the Bear Valley Firemen’s Association will present them with checks to further their efforts. From the firehouse overseen by Fire Chief Jeff Willis, the group caravans to San Bernardino County Fire Department Station #49 in Fawnskin for a 10:45am visit and check presentation. Next stop is the Big Bear Lake Fire Department at 11:30am, for a check presentation from the Big Bear Lake Firefighters Association, before heading to the Grizzly Manor, where Jayme Nordine will once again provide the Quest team with lunch, before they head to their next destination in the 13th annual five-day fundraising rally.
