UPDATE – October 22, 2011, 10:00pm – The Mill Fire is located east of the Mill Creek Ranger Station and south of Highway 38 on Yucaipa Ridge. There was no significant fire activity Friday night or Saturday. Full containment was reached Saturday evening and the fire was declared controlled. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The incident transitioned to CalFire and resources were released. There have been no reported injuries. Acreage was more accurately mapped to be 42 acres.
UPDATE – October 22, 2011, 5:35pm – The Mill Fire is located east of the Mill Creek Ranger Station and south of Highway 38 on Yucaipa Ridge. The size of the fire has been recalculated, and the forest service now says the fire has burned 43 acres. There was no significant fire activity overnight or today. Construction of containment lines, mop-up and patrol continues. Full containment is expected by 6:00pm tonight and full control by 8:00am tomorrow morning. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
UPDATE – October 22, 2011, 9:00am – The Mill Fire is 60% contained at 100 acres. The Mill Fire is located east of the Mill Creek Ranger Station and south of Highway 38 on Yucaipa Ridge. There was no significant fire activity overnight. Construction of containment lines and mop-up continues. Full containment is expected by 6:00pm tonight and full control by 8:00am Sunday morning.
UPDATE – October 21, 2011, 7:00pm – Highway 38 is now open.
Big Bear, Ca, October 21, 2011, 3:20pm – A brush fire began near Highway 38 this afternoon just east of Bryant Street, near Mill Creek Bridge, at approximately 2:15 pm today. As a result Highway 38 is closing in both directions at Bryant Street. The fire is currently between 75-100 acres, and helicopters are on scene, dropping water. According to Caltrans Public Information Officer, Terri Kasinga Highway 38 will be closed, with an undetermined reopen time due to equipment being on the road, and the Sheriffs department declaring it a crime scene. The fire started near the side of the road, and is being investigated for the cause. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route toward Big Bear to avoid the closure. Both Highway 18 the front grade, and Highway 18 the back grade are both open.
