Fire Restrictions on San Bernardino National Forest Reduced, Effective Friday

Given recent moderate weather across Southern California, the San Bernardino National Forest has reduced fire restrictions on the forest, effective today (October 23). Under the reduced fire restrictions, wood and charcoal fires will once again be allowed in agency-provided campfire rings at designated campgrounds and picnic areas. Still, adds Forest Supervisor Jeanne Wade Evans, “With the milder weather, I want to remind folks to continue to be fire safe and vigilant year-round.” Current fire restrictions will allow for the wood and charcoal fires within agency-provided fire rings, but are not permitted in Yellow Post campsites. Campfire permits are required for propane and gas stoves and lanterns used outside of developed recreation sites. Recreational shooting is limited to public shooting ranges, except for those engaged in legal hunting. Approved spark arrestors are still required for any internal combustion engine, including chainsaws, generators, motorcycles and off-highway vehicles. And, if smoking on the San Bernardino National Forest, this is limited to enclosed vehicles and developed recreation sites.
