The San Bernardino County Fire Department has been investigating Wednesday evening’s residential structure fire in the 45400 block of Baldwin Lake Road and, at this time, arson is suspected in the incident. Per a statement issued by County Fire: “While inside his own home, a volunteer firefighter with the Baldwin Lake Fire Department heard what sounded like an activated smoke detector coming from outside. When he exited his home to investigate, he found his neighbor’s home on fire. Firefighters from the San Bernardino County Fire, Baldwin Lake Volunteer Fire, Big Bear Lake and Big Bear City Fire Departments arrived on scene, and quickly extinguished the blaze. The two-story, single family residence is used as a rental home and was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Fire damage was limited to a bedroom (origin of fire); however, the rest of the home suffered smoke and heat damage. Damage was estimated at $80,000. No adjacent homes were damaged and there were no injuries sustained. Evidence found at the scene led fire investigators to believe the cause is arson. Anyone with any information regarding this incident is asked to contact Investigator Bob Mendez at 909/386-8400 or WeTip at 800-47-ARSON.”
