Big Bear, Ca, February 24, 2011, 3:00pm – With January receiving barely any precipitation, an early spring was predicted for 2011, however with last weekends snowstorm, and this coming weekends expected snow storm, we can expect winter to stick around for awhile. Current weather reports are predicting a severe cold storm that may bring two to three feet of snow in the mountains above 5500 feet from Friday night through later Saturday night. Residents and visitors are encouraged to be prepared and monitor weather and road conditions. If you have to travel, be prepared with snow chains, water, food, and drive extra slowly and carefully. Know before you go!
Here are some basic tips from the Big Bear City Fire Department to help you prepare:
1. Assure you have plenty of food, water, wood for heating your home safely, medications, pet food, etc.
2. Fill your vehicle with fuel. Sometimes fuel delivery in Big Bear Valley can be delayed due to road conditions.
3. Prepare for electrical outages. Stock up on batteries for flashlights and portable radios, safe candle use, etc.
