The family of longtime local Lyman Bruce Ellis have announced his passing on November 30, just seven days shy of his 80th birthday—as always, Evalyn, Ellis’s wife of 58 years, was by his side. The Ellises have been Big Bear Lake residents for nearly 20 years. During his years as a pastor for nine Methodist congregations throughout Southern California, Ellis led young people on backpacking trips and, following his retirement, opted to come to the mountains of Big Bear permanently. Lyman and Evalyn Ellis have been very visible in our community—though often behind the cameras, as photographers and videographers for CATS productions, weddings and Channel 6. Ellis is survived by children Benjamin and Becky, and five grandchildren, who will join Evalyn for a celebration of life to be held in June 2010. In the interim, donations in the name of Lyman Ellis may be made to the United Methodist Church’s Stone Wall of Memories; upon its completion, the Stone Wall will remember Ellis and others from the Valley with memorial plaques.
Update: Celebration of life to honor Lyman Ellis to be held on Sunday, June 20 at 5pm at the United Methodist Church in Bear City (on corner of North Shore Drive and Holden).
