San Bernardino, CA, September 27, 2012, 6am – Scam Artists are masquerading as Social Security Representatives and they’re attempting to get your personal information through e-mails that appear to be from the Social Security Administration. The e-mails often appear as invitations for you to receive on-going federal benefits. These e-mails include a link for you to follow that leads to a high-risk site. Replying or clicking on the link may infect your computer. Do not provide any personal or contact information in response to these e-mails. San Bernardino County Adult Protective Services says the e-mails are a scam. The Office of the Inspector General says you should not reply to these e-mails. Don’t follow or click on any of the links in the e-mail. Contact the Social Security Administration directly with any questions. You can report these e-mails to the Inspector General at 1-800-269-0271. And if you think you may be a victim of a scam, contact San Bernardino County Adult Protective Services at 877-565-2020.
