Big Bear, Ca April 20, 2011 12:00 pm – Coloring, hiding, and hunting for eggs is a tradition for many families at Easter. To make your holiday safe, remember several food safety tips. If you choose to eat the eggs used in an egg hunt, it is important that they are not cracked, hidden in areas where dirt or bacteria may contaminate them, and that they are not out of the refrigerator for more than 2 hours. Use food grade dye and always wash your hands prior to preparing the eggs. Immediately dispose of eggs that become cracked in the cooking or dying process, and any eggs that are found after 2 hours outside of the refrigerator. To ensure safety, it may be easiest to make a separate set of eggs for decorating and hiding. For a happy holiday, include food safety in your family traditions.
