Big Bear, Ca, December 29, 2010, 12:00pm – Current road conditions are as follows. R2 Chain restrictions are in effect, which means all two wheel drive vehicles are required to have chains or cables on in the Big Bear Valley, and on all roads leading on and off the mountain. Highway 18 through Lucerne Valley, or Highway 38 through Mentone are the best routes to take off the mountain at this time. Expect delays on all mountain roads, and account for additional travel time, as it will take longer to get to your destination. If you need to install chains or cables, make sure you do so before you leave your home, or if you are coming up the mountain, make sure you pull off to the side of the road, in a safe area where you can install chains or cables. Give yourself plenty of room between you and the car in front of you, and do not brake hard. Drive safely, be aware of your surroundings, and keep plenty of gas in your tank.
