Big Bear, Ca, August 8, 2011, 5:00pm – The 2011 State Games were held this past weekend in San Diego, California, and Big Bear’s own Drayden Gardner participated in the 12 and under street skateboarding competition. Drayden who is well known in Big Bear for his snowboarding and skateboarding feats placed 6th in the nation for his category, and received the honor of carrying in California’s state flag for the opening ceremonies. The State Games happen every other year, with the in between year being a qualifying year for young athletes. This was Drayden’s first time to the State Games, and qualified last year. Other sports included in the state games are surfing, BMX, basketball, baseball, and gymnastics. Drayden is hosting a street skateboarding contest on September 10th at the skate park in Sugarloaf. Proceeds from the contest will go to the Big Bear Teen Center. KBHR congratulates Drayden on his 6th place finish at the State Games, and thanks him for being a great ambassador for Big Bear!
