Big Bear, Ca, May 13, 2011, 1:00pm – Dick Kun, President of the Snow Summit Ski Corporation, recently received the prestigious lifetime achievement award from the National Ski Areas Association. Kun, who has been skiing since he was nine years old, took over operation of Snow Summit at the age of 24 when his step father, Tommi Tyndall, then head of the corporation, was killed in a tractor accident at the ski area. Kun has seen many changes in the ski industry over the years, including the benefit of a large snow making operation, the start of snowboarding in the late 1980’s, and the evolution of ski equipment and gear. In 2002, the Snow Summit Ski Corporation bought Bear Mountain and created a thrill seeking youth centered park as well as the first terrain park manual which led to the first National Ski Areas Association Terrain Park Resource Guide. Kun also was a junior ski racer, became a certified ski instructor, and even served on the Far West Ski Instructors Association Board. Kun has been managing the Snow Summit Ski Corporation for the past 48 years and still skis regularly. KBHR congratulates Dick Kun on receiving the prestigious lifetime achievement award!
