Big Bear, Ca, April 5, 2011, 12:00pm – On Monday, April 4, 2011, at about 4:45 am, Deputy Josh Parrott stopped to check a vehicle parked in a turnout on Highway 138 near Sawpit Canyon in the Lake Silverwood area. Sleeping in the vehicle were 24-year-old Desiree Rodriguez and 20-year-old Crystal Manzanares, both residents of Baldwin Park. The vehicle they were in was a 2008 Chevy Malibu registered out of Baldwin Park. While Deputy Parrott was checking the vehicle, Rodriguez suddenly started the car and drove off. Sheriff’s Dispatch advised the car was stolen and Deputy Parrott pursued the stolen car on Highway 138 towards the Summit Valley area. The pursuit lasted about 8.5 miles at speeds up to 100 mph before the Malibu collided with a silver Plymouth driven by a Hesperia resident on Summit Valley Road. When Rodriguez attempted to drive off, Parrot used his patrol car to pin the Malibu to a fence. Rodriguez got out of the vehicle and fled into the desert and Deputy Parrot rendered aid to Manzanares and the driver of the Plymouth who had sustained minor injuries. Both Manzanares and the driver of the Plymouth were transported to area hospitals. Sheriff’s deputies are searching for Desiree Rodriguez who is wanted for felony evading and possession of stolen property. Anyone with additional information is urged to call Detective Carpenter at the Twin Peaks station at 336-0600.
