The Event Resource Office of Big Bear Valley, overseen by Rick Bates, will be allocated $20,000 from the County’s Board Elective Projects budget, given a unanimous vote by San Bernardino County Supervisors in their meeting yesterday (August 4). The Event Resource Office, which coordinates logistics for Valley-wide events (including this weekend’s Fun Run and Friday Night in the Village), is collaboratively funded by the County, the City of Big Bear Lake, the Big Bear Chamber of Commerce, and the Big Bear Lake Resort Association.
In their Tuesday meeting, County Supervisors also agreed to the permit amendment for the U.S. Geological Survey; this amendment will allow for the Earthquake Hazards Team an additional five years on the fee-free permit for 1,600 square feet of County property on the North Shore at Stanfield Cutoff. This property is used for the operation of a global positioning satellite system, which measures ground shifts and related seismic events. Similar permits have been issued (and extended) in Baldy Mesa, Barstow and Apple Valley.
