Big 5 Sporting Goods Builds in Big Bear

Big Bear Lake, CA, September 18, 2012 – Construction started shortly after the building permit was issued on August 24^th for the new Big 5 Sporting Goods store currently under construction at 41385 Big Bear Boulevard.  According to Jim Miller, Community Development Director for the City of Big Bear Lake, Avalon Investments, the contractor on the project, has been interested in building for Big 5 in the Big Bear area for about 3 years.  Other sites considered included the lot next to Butcher’s Block and Building Materials as well as the location previously leased by Haus and Home Furnishings in the Interlaken Shopping Center.  Ultimately, Avalon Investments choose the location on the Boulevard across from McDonalds.  As the developer on the project, Avalon Investments builds to suit then will lease back the property to Big 5 with a 10,500 square foot building allowing for 8,500 square feet in retail space along with 43 paved parking spaces.  The contractor’s goal is to have the shell of the building finished by October 1^st so the interior work can be completed with the objective to open before Thanksgiving weekend.  The Big 5 chain stores carry products for a broad selection of outdoor activities and athletic equipment for multiple sports.
