Big Bear Lake, CA, August 22, 2011, 8:00am – The Big Bear Valley Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) will have a community meeting on Wednesday, August 24th, from 6 pm to 7 pm at the Big Bear Elks Lodge on Village Drive in Big Bear Lake. The public is invited. The purpose of COAD is to advocate for and promote a coordinated valley-wide disaster preparedness planning initiative that aims to integrate businesses, local service organizations, nonprofits, and faith based groups to improve community readiness in preparation of a major disaster event. When disaster occurs COAD will support local emergency responders in the field. This collaboration will be involved in the planning, response, recovery and mitigation of COAD. Community volunteers are needed to help establish the COAD. The volunteers’ initial focus will be to support the design and adoption of standardized disaster plans that ensure common response goals and written coordination and communication procedures. Anyone can volunteer. If you’re interested and would like to get involved by going to the meeting on August 24th, email your RSVP to bbvcoad@gmail.com or call (909) 866-8185 and leave a message.
