Everyone who believes in education for our community is invited to participate in a visioning meeting, to determine what Big Bear wants and needs from our community college. San Bernardino Valley College, which offers college-level classes at Big Bear High School, reports statistics that, in our area, an individual with an associate’s degree averages an income that is 116% higher than that of those with a high school diploma or GED. In order to provide more college classes specific to the employment goals of those in Big Bear, the college visioning meeting will allow for discussion, facilitated by the Lighthouse Project’s Beth Gardner, on Monday, March 30 at the Big Bear Discovery Center. Big Bear Lake City Council member Liz Harris, who has been instrumental in bringing college curriculum to the Big Bear Valley, notes that Monday’s 5pm meeting will determine what needs are yet unmet—whether that’s a need for more trade classes or an offering of curriculum through a partnership with the San Bernardino National Forest. For more information on San Bernardino Valley College classes in Big Bear, tune in to KBHR’s “Tuned In on the Bear” with Kat Sawyer, as Harris will be featured on the show both today (March 25) in the 5 o’clock hour and again on Sunday at 7am. The college visioning meeting is, again, Monday 5pm at the Discovery Center.
