Big Bear Lake, CA, June 18, 2012, noon – The Big Bear Valley Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) will have a community meeting tonight (Monday, June 18, 2012) from 6 pm to 7 pm at the Emergency Operating Center (Civil Air Patrol Building) at 100 Meadow Lane in Big Bear City. The public is invited. The purpose of COAD is to advocate for and promote a coordinated valley-wide disaster preparedness planning initiative that aims to integrate businesses, local service organizations, nonprofits, and faith based groups to improve community readiness in preparation of a major disaster event. When disaster occurs COAD will support local emergency responders in the field. This collaboration will be involved in the planning, response, recovery and mitigation of COAD. Community volunteers are needed to help establish the COAD. The volunteers’ initial focus will be to support the design and adoption of standardized disaster plans that ensure common response goals and written coordination and communication procedures. Anyone can volunteer. Again, the meeting starts tonight at 6pm at the Emergency Operating Center (Civil Air Patrol Building) at 100 Meadow Lane in Big Bear City.
