The parent support group Common Ground, which is affiliated with the Lighthouse Project and geared toward parents of teens and pre-teens, will offer another free workshop to parents as part of the “Strengthening Mutual Respect” series. The subject of next Monday’s 6:30pm workshop is titled “Understanding the Teenage Brain” and will be facilitated by Mark Hobbins, founder of online parenting resource FamilyIQ and co-founder of Aspen Education Group, which provides treatment programs for troubled youth and their families. Hobbins, who is the father of seven, says, “I clearly feel that learning to become your own family’s interventionist and applying effective parenting principles will save parents not only a great deal of money but, more importantly, almost incomprehensible remorse and pain. I have seen far too many families who could have escaped parental agony if they had been empowered to do things differently.” To hear Hobbins’s 90-minute presentation offered by Common Ground, parents are asked to RSVP to 801-1766. The talk on Monday the 19th will be held at Community Church by the Lake and, though free, a $10 suggested donation will be welcomed.
