Big Bear Lake, CA, July 10, 2014 – Three seats on the Big Bear Lake City Council are up for election in November. They are the seats of current Mayor Jay Obernolte, Mayor Pro Tem David Caretto, and Councilmember Rick Herrick. Persons interested in running may take out candidate filing papers beginning July 14. David Caretto and Rick Herrick have indicated they will be seeking re-election. Jay Obernolte is currently seeking a seat in the State Assembly for the 33rd District and will not be running for re-election to the City Council. That means the filing deadline will be extended from Friday, August 8 to Wednesday, August 13 for everyone except the incumbents.
The offices of City Council are elected for four year terms. The only requirements are that the candidate must be a registered voter and reside within the City of Big Bear Lake. Candidates will receive informational handbooks when they obtain their filing papers.
