Big Bear, Ca, August 17, 2011, 1:00pm – Residents of the Big Bear Valley between the ages of 18 to21 years old may qualify for one of ten available spots with the Career Institute. The Career Institute is a Workforce Investment Act Program, which is federally funded and free to those who qualify. The Career Institute enrolls and mentors participants through a 2-year program designed to provide occupational training, educational enrichment, life skills, career mentoring, training and job placement. To qualify for the program participants must be between the ages of 18 and 21 years of age, live in the San Bernardino County, be a high school graduate or have their GED, and their income cannot exceed $5,415 in the previous 6 month period. Some of the different certification programs include auto mechanics, health careers, conservation and wildlife management, fabric design and merchandising, and many more.
