According to CalTrans, blasting is scheduled for next week at the Big Bear Dam bridge project on Highway 18. Highway 18, the front grade, will remain open during construction. Short delays with flagging are to be expected during the blasting schedule which will be from 1pm to 3pm on Monday through Thursday, August 31st to September 3rd. Weekday flagging will continue from 7am to 5pm, accounting for 15-20 minute delays. In other CalTrans news, a $630,000 construction project to repair our roadways will begin Monday, August 31st. The project will begin 1.3 miles south of Big Bear Dam and end at Pineview Drive in Big Bear City which encompasses approximately a 10-mile stretch of roadway, essentially running all the way through town. Caltrans’ work for the route consists of digouts and resurfacing. Signs will be posted in advance. Construction will be Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm for the month long project expected to be completed by the end of September. There is no construction scheduled during weekends and holidays. Flagging operations will be present and one lane will remain open during work hours. Traffic impacts are expected to be minimal with short delays.
