Big Bear Lake, CA, November 16, 2016 – Bear Valley Community Healthcare District has been awarded the Quest for Zero: Excellence in ED award from BETA Healthcare Group. BETA Healthcare Group is focused on improving reliability and reducing risk exposure in emergency departments. BETA provides member hospitals and medical groups the opportunity for significant reductions in ED premiums each year through their Patient Safety Initiative. As emergency departments demonstrate compliance with all elements of the first tier which focuses on education, they may advance to the second tier providing additional opportunities to enhance patient safety while further reducing ED premiums in insurance.
On Wednesday September 7, Bear Valley Community Healthcare District’s Emergency Department was presented with the Quest for Zero: Excellence in ED award from BETA Healthcare Group. The award means that 100% of the clinical staff at the Bear Valley Community Hospital Emergency Department completed education and training on the treatment of chest pain and heart attacks. The education involved a course of study that examined, in detail, how to effectively evaluate patients that present to the Emergency Department with typical or atypical signs and symptoms of a heart attack. This training aimed to increase the level of expertise that nurses and physicians need for the assessment and decision making that are involved in treating a heart attack quickly and in accordance with the highest standard of care.
