Big Bear, CA, February 7, 2013 – The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department conducted a press conference at 3:30pm this afternoon at Bear Mountain confirming suspicions that the burning vehicle found this morning on Forest Service Road 2N10 near Bear Mountain is that of Christopher Dorner, a former LAPD officer. Dorner is a suspect in multiple killings this week including today’s early morning ambush of two police officers in Riverside, killing one of the officers and wounding the other. A manhunt is now underway in Big Bear Lake. According to Public Information Officer for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Cindy Bachman, enforcement teams are searching door to door in the area between Bear Mountain and Snow Summit. The Sheriff’s Department does not believe that Dorner has any connection to Big Bear and no prior tips were called in regarding his whereabouts. At 9:31am this morning, a call was placed to the Sheriff’s Department that a vehicle was on fire about a mile and a half from Bear Mountain. The vehicle did match the description of Dorner’s truck, a dark colored Nissan Titan. Now that confirmation that the vehicle is that of Dorner’s and the manhunt is underway, our community is on high alert. Dorner is described as a black male, 6 feet tall, weighing 270 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. He is considered armed and extremely dangerous.
