Bowling Family Donates $30,000 to Sugarloaf Park!

Big Bear, Ca, December 29, 2011, 5:00pm – The Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District announced this week that long time residents Ray and Cheryl Bowling along with their children donated 30,000 towards the continued renovation of the Sugarloaf Park.  Their contribution will help bolster the recent improvements including the new tennis court, skate park, picnic shelter, ball field fencing and lighting, basketball court, ADA pathways, and new ADA accessible spectator seating for the ball field.  “We’ve seen so much improvement to Sugarloaf Park in the last couple of years that we figured an additional donation might help complete the effort,” said Ray.  With the large donation further improvements to the park can occur, and will include a new “older kids” swing set, playground wood chips, additional turf areas, fencing, renovation of the existing picnic shelter, and most notably, a quarter mile exercise track complete with fitness stations.  The Bowling Family has donated $30,000 toward this effort, through the Soroptimist International of Big Bear Valley’s Youth Foundation.  Foundation President Theresa Reagan-Blood explained, “This is another example of the wonderful families in Big Bear who continue to support not only our kids, but our community in general, and we are proud to continue to partner with the Park District in improving and sustaining parks and recreation programming.  Bowling’s kids have participated in many Park District programs over the years, with both attending Rainbow Kids Club before and after school programming.  Ray Bowling further stated, “The Park District offers so many outstanding programs for kids that it was an easy decision.” Improvements are scheduled for completion by August, 2012.
