Big Bear Lake, CA, February 9, 2013 – They’re the kind of weather conditions that make Big Bear southern California’s favorite four-season resort: residents and vacationers woke up this morning to piles of fresh powder gleaming in the sunlight.
It was the single biggest snowfall so far during the 2012-2013 winter season, with 12 to 18 inches being reported at various locations across the valley.
Besides bringing joy to thousands of people playing in the white stuff, the storm also meant that several winners were named in KBHR’s Snowfall Sweepstakes. The annual contest challenges people to guess the date and time that 9.3 inches of snow are measured at the KBHR studios. By Friday afternoon, that amount had accumulated.
The heavy snow did bring its share of traffic headaches. This morning’s incidents included several accidents on Highways 330, 18 and 38 — including one vehicle fire.
