Big Bear, Ca February 21, 2011 12:15 pm – Twelve Big Bear singers participated in the National Association of Voice Teachers’ student auditions. The auditions, held on February 12 in Las Vegas, included 118 middle school, high school, college, and adult contestants from Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah. The Big Bear students, from the Voice Studio of Diane Sloan Kubeja, dominated the competition. Middle school students Callie Brzezinski and Kortney Carmody tied for first place in their division. Freshman and sophomore high school students Jodi Cline, Holly Lavinger, and Zachery Meyer competed in the Classical Repertoire division, and took first, second, and third places. In the junior and senior high school student division, Tasha Wormsbecker received an honorable mention. In the high school Musical Theater division, Zachery Meyer took second place, Delaney Warren took third, and Holly Lavinger received an honorable mention. All participants received judges comments and recommendations. The winners received a certificate and a monetary award.
