Big Bear, Ca, August 16, 2011, 4:00pm – Thirty-nine residents of the Big Bear Valley met on August 15th at the Big Bear Moose Lodge in Fawnskin to determine if there was interest in creating a Tea Party to represent mountain residents. One year resident of the Big Bear Valley, James Weinheimer, organized the get-together. Weinheimer told KBHR he moved to the valley a year ago from the Orange County area and wanted to retire in different place then the OC. Weinheimer, who has not been involved with any political organizations in the past, organized the first meeting because he doesn’t like what is going on in Washington, and knew of other people who felt the same way. The attendees of the meeting unanimously endorsed forming a political action group to participate in activities that impact citizens of the San Bernardino Mountains. A steering committee was selected to formally establish a Tea Party, with Tea Party groups in Redlands and nearby desert communities offering to help the new mountain organization get established. The next meeting of the Mountain Area Tea Party will be at 6:00pm., Monday, August 29, at the Big Bear Moose Lodge, in Fawnskin.
