Big Bear, Ca, March 24, 2011, 8:00am – The Big Bear Valley continues to be a safe place to live and to raise a family. In a recent report by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the Big Bear Valley continues to lead San Bernardino County with the lowest crime rates. The Big Bear Station reported an 8% decrease in crime rates from the previous year, and the City of Big Bear Lake saw a decrease of 25%. In comparison, Big Bear’s neighboring mountain communities saw an overall increase of 11% in their crime rates. The High Desert saw increases in crime rates, with the city of Hesperia seeing an increase of 15%, the highest in the county. “The fiscal state of the department reflects tough times ahead of us.” Said Sheriff Rod Hoops. “Priorities tend to shift in tough financial times, but mine will continue to be the safety of the citizens of this county.”
