The Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District is all about the parks this week. On Saturday, County Supervisor Neil Derry will join parks staff at what was once the former Big Bear City Park. As of September 19, the park on Greenway Drive will be re-opened to the public, with a 10am groundbreaking, to be followed by a renovation work party, as well as contests for children, and music, food and activities. Then, come Monday, September 21, Rec and Park will begin removal of existing playground equipment at Erwin Lake Park, to allow for new, ADA-approved equipment, which is scheduled to be ready for use by Saturday, October 3. Today (September 15), the Advisory Commission of the Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District will meet at the Big Bear Senior Center at 5pm to review these and other projects. The 5pm regular meeting of the Commission will be preceded by a 4pm meeting with the Big Bear City Community Services District park sub-committee, for a funding update on the districts’ joint project of Paradise Park. Rec and Park Commissioner Gloria Rose joins Kathryn Poole on the committee, given the vacancy left by Don Allen, who served the Commission for four years on behalf of the Moonridge area.
