Big Bear, CA, June 15, 2012, 5:00pm – The Big Bear Sheriff’s Station has just released information for the public’s safety regarding a new resident of Big Bear Lake who is a Sexually Violent Predator. Martin Kenneth Smith registered at the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station on Thursday, June 14th, as required by law, listing his new address as Motel 6, Room 152, at 42899 Big Bear Blvd in Big Bear Lake. The motel is located in a residential area, surrounded by numerous single-family homes inhabited by young families with children. Smith is described as a white male adult, 47 years of age, 5’7″, 180 lbs with brown hair and blue eyes. In 1994, Smith was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison in San Diego County for multiple counts of lewd or lascivious acts against a child under 14 years of age. However, he was paroled in 1999 and soon violated the terms of his parole sending him back to state prison and was committed to Coalinga State Hospital in 2006. He was recently released from civil commitment without any supervision or electronic monitoring. Smith is classified as a Sexually Violent Predator by the California Department of Justice. Of the 123,821 registered sex offenders in the State of California, less than 1 percent of those are deemed Sexually Violent Predators. Smith is not wanted for any crimes at this time and he is not on probation or parole. This information has been released by the Sheriff’s Station for public notification purposes.
