The Big Bear Rescue Zoo Welcomes A Black Bear

Big Bear Lake, CA, May 18, 2012, 5:00pm – Thursday night, May 17,  a very lucky little bear moved into his new home. The 4 year-old black bear that will be named Pooh was scheduled for euthanization because he continually raided a beekeepers hives.  After destroying $8000 worth of honey, the beekeeper got a permit to capture the bear.  The bear ended up at the Fish and Game facility in Rancho Cordova. The Wardens quickly figured out that Pooh was a sweet tempered bear and they made a life saving call to The Big Bear Rescue Zoo. The Big Bear Rescue Zoo is a rehabilitation facility offering injured, orphaned and imprinted wild animals a safe haven temporarily while they heal, or permanently as they are unable to survive on their own. 90% of all the animals brought to The Big Bear Zoo Rescue for rehabilitation are successfully released back into their native environment. Those that remain on exhibit are either too injured, or have been imprinted by humans and cannot be released back into the wild to care for themselves. Pooh is another success story.  Without Big Bear Rescue Zoo stepping up to the plate and providing Pooh a safe place to live out his life, this story would not have a happy ending.
