Big Bear, Ca, April 5, 2011, 3:00pm – This year Big Bear will be represented in Maryland at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals in May. A team from Big Bear placed first in their regional division, and second in the state of California. Approximately 860 teams from America, and around the world will compete in this competition for the problem solving youth of today. The team that is representing Big Bear is comprised of Aidan Haggerty, Connor Pellegrini, Hale Obernolte, Jonathan Toner, Mary Olsen, Matthew Laski, and Sierra Willis. “These kids have worked so hard and have been so creative, they really deserve it” said team coach Heather Obernolte. “They overcame a lot of obstacles and challenges, and pulled together as a team to get the job done. I am so proud of them! Now we just need to raise some money!” The team of seven will need to raise $10,000 for the expenses associated with World Finals. While in Maryland the team will experience college life, will stay in the dorms, eat cafeteria food, and will be able to visit Washington D.C. The team will be hosting a “Food, Fun, and Odyssey” fundraiser on April 20th 6:00-8:00pm at Community Church by the Lake. There will be music, food, and the Odyssey team will perform their skit so everyone can understand more about Odyssey of the Mind. Tickets are $25 per adult, kids 12 and under are free with a paying adult. For more information about the fundraiser, tickets, or to make a donation to Odyssey, please contact Heather Obernolte at 909-547-0530.
