Big Bear, Ca, October 3rd, 2011, 1:00pm –
This past weekend Big Bear mountain bike racers were well represented at the California State Championships in Temecula, and at the 24 Hours National Championships in Colorado Springs, Colorado. 17 year old Casey Williams, along with team mates Shane Skelton, Tyler Copela, and Ryan Geiger competed as a four man junior team for the third year in a row at the 24 hour National Championships. This is the third year that the team has won the junior division, and this year the team came in second overall, only 10 minutes behind pro team, Pro Cycling.
In California, the Burton Boys all competed and made it to the podium with 13 year old Ryan, and 11 year old Zach both getting 4th in their age groups, and younger brother 9 year old Alec placed1st in his division, beating the rest of the group by over eight minutes. Evan and Elle Williams both placed 2nd in their age groups, and sadly brother Cameron crashed on the course and did not finish. Local pro riders also made an appearance on the podium with Allan Laframboise taking 4th place and Karen Lundgren taking 3rd place in the 50-mile endurance race. Derek Hermon of Bear Valley Bikes took 3rd in the Pro Men’s Super Downhill race, with John Nobil taking 4th overall for the Pro Men’s Cross Country race followed by Vincent Lombardi in 5th place of Steven K Sports Pro Team.
