Big Bear Lake, CA, April 22, 2015 – Shortly before 10:00 p.m. on April 20, deputies of the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of a gunshot heard in the area of the 500 block of Temple Lane in Big Bear Lake. A witness reported that after hearing the gunshot, a male subject was observed standing on his porch and yelling threatening statements at his neighbor. The male subject, later identified as Ronald Argelander, then went back into his residence and continued yelling at the neighbor through an open window.
Deputies arrived on scene and attempted to make contact with Argelander by using a public address system. At first, Argelander was unresponsive to deputy commands, but then became cooperative after deputies were able to talk him out of his house. Argelander was taken into custody without incident. Deputies recovered the weapon at the scene. A search of the area was conducted and no damage was found to any surrounding property. A criminal history check revealed that Argelander is a convicted felon and prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm.
Ronald Argelander was booked into West Valley Detention Center on felony charges of assault with a firearm, gross negligence with a firearm, criminal threats, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Argelander remains in jail on $50,000 bail, pending an arraignment hearing set for April 22 in San Bernardino County Superior Court.
