Big Bear Lake, CA, June 9, 2011, 3pm – In a unanimous show of support for reviving the Old Miners’ Big Bear Heritage Parade, on Monday, June 6, the Big Bear Lake City Council voted to sponsor the traditional community event, and again make it a showcase ingredient of Big Bear Valley’s full summer slate of activities. The Old Miners Day Parade received $10,000, plus in-kind services worth more than $5,000 from the City. President of the Old Miners Association, Dayan Anderson, said the Old Miners “are very encouraged by the City of Big Bear Lake’s decision to continue its long tradition of supporting the Old Miners’ Parade.” Anderson said “in addition to the critical in-kind services they always have provided, the council’s generous pledge of funds will help the committee in its efforts to revive and repackage this important Bear Valley event, scheduled for Saturday, July 23rd.” Anderson also said two new community events to honor our military guests and their families have been added to this year’s Old Miners’ parade activities. Elks Lodge 1787 will host a musical tribute to America’s forces and a reception on Friday, July 22. Then, on the morning of the parade, there will be a Parade Pancake & Pastries Breakfast with a percentage of the proceeds donated to the National Military Family Association.
