Big Bear Lake, CA, July 10, 2012, noon – Anyone interested in running for one of two open seats on the Big Bear Lake City Council in the November 6, 2012 General Municipal Election can take out candidate filing papers beginning July 16, 2012. Papers must be filed by 5pm on Friday, August 10, 2012. The seats of current Mayor Bill Jahn and Councilmember Liz Harris are up for election. If one of the incumbents fails to file, the deadline to file papers will be extended to 5pm on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 for everyone except the incumbents. The offices of City Council are elected at-large for four-year terms. The only requirements for this office are the candidate must be a registered voter and reside within the City of Big Bear Lake. Candidates will receive informational handbooks at the time they obtain their papers. The City Clerk is available to assist with completing the necessary paperwork and answering any questions candidates may have. Appointments are highly recommended.
