The Captain’s Anchorage asks you to form your own opinion about the ghost, but is sure you will find their food flavorful. The restaurant was built in 1946 and your dinner includes a healthy portion of Big Bear history. Formerly known as the Sportsman’s Tavern, the location has endured fires, gambling, and multiple ghost sightings. The current bar area is named for former owner, Andy Devine, best known for his role as Jingles on the Wild Bill Hickok show in the early 1950’s. In the Andy Devine Room, current day visitors can enjoy drink and food specials during the 4:30 – 6:30 happy hour each evening, Sunday – Friday. The main dining room is open from 4:30 until 10:00 pm nightly, with Angus steaks, prime rib, chicken, seafood, and pasta dishes, each including the soup and salad bar with the meal.
