Big Bear, Ca, April 10, 2011 –Pure Black Racing, professional cycling team from New Zealand made Big Bear Valley a training ground for the past few weeks while they prepared for the Redland’s Bike Classic, and other upcoming races. They chose Big Bear for its high altitude setting, and told KBHR that they enjoyed riding around the valley. “Any time spent at altitude is good for the team” said Carl Williams, Cycling Director for the team. “Being able to sleep at altitude is one thing, but being able to eat, and train at altitude is even better.” The New Zealand team has a full race schedule planned with races across the United States, in Canada, and Australia. The team, which is in its first year, has already caught attention in the states with many of their riders making it on the podium in races such as the Redland’s Bike Classic, and the Sunny King Pro in Alabama. Pure Black Racing plans on returning to Big Bear again next year for more altitude training. The Big Bear Cycling Association has made connections with the team, and told KBHR that there is a possibility that they will be able to ride in the Tour de Big Bear on August 6th.
