Big Bear City, Ca, December 27, 2010, 12:00pm – On 12-26-10 at approximately 1:15am, deputies from the Big Bear Sheriff Station were conduction routine patrol in the area of Erwin Lake in Big Bear City when fresh footprints in the newly fallen snow were found near mailboxes in the area. Deputies followed the tracks and found mail scattered on the ground. The tracks led to several more area mailboxes and in each area it appeared mail had been tampered with or stolen. The tracks led to Matthew Nett;s residence at 908 Spruce Rd, in Big Bear city. When deputies made contact with Nett and the second suspect a 16 year old juvenile, a large amount of mail taken from locations on the east side of Big Bear City was recovered. Also recovered was mail and property recently stolen from a burglary at a local post office. Nett was booked in the Big Bear Sheriff Station Jail and the second suspect was transported to the San Bernardino County Juvenile Detention Center. Several victims have already been contacted and had mail and property returned to them. This investigation is ongoing and Deputies are attempting to determine if any additional crimes have been committed related to this case. The United States Postal Service has also been contacted and a Postal Inspector will be assisting in this investigation.
