The Big Bear community has ponied up over $39,000 to assure that the Fourth of July fireworks show over Big Bear Lake will be as big and brilliant as the anticipated 25,000 visitors expect on Saturday the Fourth. This year’s goal of the City of Big Bear Lake, the Rotary Club of Big Bear Valley and the Big Bear Chamber of Commerce is to raise $50,000 to make for a spectacular event. Last year’s show, produced by the Rotary Club with $43,000 in donations, included 4,636 shots from barges stationed at Pine Knot Landing, as well as a series of explosive cakes (which is a big box full of shells); in 2008, the sky was lit up by simultaneous cakes of 168 shots each. Contributions for this year’s fireworks display, which is synchronized to patriotic music on KBHR 93.3 FM, are being accepted by the Chamber; for more information about sponsorship opportunities, call 909/866-4607.
