Big Bear, CA, June 17, 2014 – Keenan Emmett Dolan and Jordan Romero left Big Bear yesterday on their journey to Africa. The two Big Bear High School graduates are heading to the country of Malawi to help build a school.
They have joined the group buildOn, who mobilizes urban youth through service and education to help build schools in remote villages around the world. 775 million people worldwide are illiterate and by building schools, they can help break the cycle of poverty and illiteracy that is so prevalent in many of the poorer countries.
These projects can be life changing for the the student volunteers as well as the villagers. Many of these kids have not been out of the United States and for them to experience different cultures and to see how others live can give them new perspectives and understanding as well as appreciation and inspiration for their own lives. Keenan and Jordan are certainly on the adventure of a lifetime.
