Big Bear Valley, CA — The Big Bear High School Bears varsity baseball team is seeking the community’s support, not just for this afternoon’s home game against Citrus Valley (at 3:30pm on the BBHS field), but for their first-ever Burgers for Big Bear Baseball at Boo Bears fundraiser, taking place on Monday evening, May 3. At present, the varsity baseball team is 7-11 for the season and 1-3 in league in a season that has seen many games rescheduled or redirected off the mountain due to significant snowfall in the Big Bear Valley. This has resulted in increased travel expenses during a school year when athletic travel budgets for high school sports risk being reduced due to state-funding issues. Community members can contribute to Bears baseball by joining Coach Joe Bradley and the team at Boo Bears on Pine Knot in the Village on Monday; from 5 to 9pm, $5 will buy you a burger, chips and soda, and the opportunity to join the squad for karaoke. For more information on Monday’s fundraiser, contact baseball mom Melissa Bennett at 744-7831.
Update: The Bears won their game against Citrus Valley, in a score of 10-7! The BBHS varsity softball team also played Citrus Valley on Friday, but lost their game in a score of 8-13.
