The Big Bear High School girls tennis team wrapped their season in recent days, ending with a second place De Anza League finish and two rounds of CIF post-season competition, which ended with Thursday’s 5-13 loss to Patriot High School in Riverside. The Lady Bears’ Head Coach Josh Roth, whose assistant coach is dad Barry Roth, tells KBHR, “Overall, it was an exceptionally successful season and our philosophy—which translates to life in general–is that it’s not so much about the destination, but the journey.” Coach Roth, who also serves at Big Bear High School’s art teacher, says that the girls on the tennis team put forth a great effort all season. “Three times this season,” he adds, “the girls had been losing 5-0, and came back to win the set. That’s the attitude we’ve had all season: go for every point and stay positive.” League honors for members of the tennis team included an Honorable Mention for Hanna Williamson, 2nd Team All League distinctions for Paige Sutherland and Emma Hilliard, and 1st Team All League honors for doubles teams Dori Harris and Kelly Anderson and Shannon Benson and Allison Costly.
