Big Bear, Ca, January 27, 2012, 12:00pm – First Baptist Church is inviting the community to help quilt 33 quilts for young girls in Burundi Africa. First Baptist last year raised funds to build an orphanage in Burundi, which is located in Eastern Africa bordering Rwanda. The orphanage was built and houses 33 young girls. Currently a second orphanage is being built for 33 young boys, after funds were also raised at First Baptist. Tomorrow the church will open its doors to its Fellowship Hall from 9am to noon, and volunteers are needed to bring fabric scraps, and sewing material to help start the process of creating the 33 quilts. If you don’t know how to quilt, local Master Quilter Susan Meyers will be on hand to teach volunteers how to quilt and sew. Meyers told KBHR that this month she will start by teaching the volunteers how to make the easy patterns, and in February and later months may introduce different patterns. The quilts need to be finished in May, as a delegation from the church will go to Burundi to have a dedication for both of the orphanages. First Baptist Church is located 41960 Big Bear Blvd.
