Possible Attempted Child Abduction Prompts Sheriff’s Station Warning to Parents

Big Bear Lake, CA — The Big Bear Sheriff’s Station spent yesterday afternoon investigating an incident of suspicious activity that, all told, did not result in any harm to an eight-year-old boy in Big Bear Lake—though all parents should be aware of the potential dangers. Per the press release issued by the Sheriff’s Station today: “Yesterday afternoon (June 9)  at approximately 3:30pm, the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station received a call reporting a possible attempted abduction of an eight-year-old male juvenile in the Fox Farm area of Big Bear Lake. The juvenile was playing outside when he was approached by a man in a vehicle who asked if he wanted to go down the hill with him. The juvenile refused and reported the incident to his parent, who contacted the Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies conducted a check of the area but were unable to locate the vehicle. The vehicle is described as a black four-door car. The subject driving the car is described as an older white male adult with white hair. The juvenile also reported that there was a small white dog in the front seat of the suspect’s vehicle.
Parents are encouraged to talk with their kids about personal safety issues in a manner that is age appropriate for the child. Information and activity books to assist parents in teaching their children to beware of strangers is available at no charge at the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station.” The station is located on Big Bear Boulevard at Summit Boulevard in Big Bear Lake.
