**UPDATE** Tuesday, October 26th at approximately 10:20 a.m., the suspect, Ivan Lopez, and the victim Miranda Hemphill have been located in Las Vegas, Nevada by the U.S. Marshall’s, Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.
The suspect is in custody and the victim is in protective custody. Investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s are enroute to Las Vegas to conduct interviews.
* Original Story- On Sunday, October 24, 2010 at approximately 9:25 a.m., Miranda Hemphill was reported as a runaway juvenile to the Victorville Police Station. Miranda’s parents believed that she had left the residence sometime during the night. It was also believed that she had willingly left with the suspect, Ivan Lopez who was thought to be 17 years of age. As the investigation continued, it was determined that Ivan Lopez was 22 years of age and currently has an active felony warrant in San Bernardino County for a sex crime involving a minor that occurred in 2009. It
is also believed that Miranda Hemphill met the suspect, Ivan Lopez on line.
The suspect, Ivan Lopez is believed to be driving a 1973 Chevy Van primer, gray and white, California license plate 2CIW894. Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in locating the victim and the suspect.
