Big Bear City, Ca, August 31, 2010, 5:00pm – Shortly after noon yesterday, deputies of the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station responded to a call for service of a well check at an apartment in the 300 block of West Big Bear Blvd. in Big Bear City. The reporting party stated that children were possibly being left unattended at the location. Upon arrival, deputies located Dion Augustine walking down the street approximately one block away from the apartment. Deputies obtained consent from Augustine to follow him into his apartment where a ten-month-old infant was found alone and sleeping on the floor. Additionally, several containers of toxic and unknown chemicals were found to be in the apartment. A search warrant was obtained and Detectives of the Sheriff’s Narcotics Division were called to the scene for further investigation. As a result of the search, chemicals and other paraphernalia consistent with a clandestine laboratory, also known as a Meth lab, were seized. During the search, Janiey Augustine returned to the apartment. Dion and Janiey Augustine were detained without incident and booked into the Big Bear Jail on felony charges of manufacturing a controlled substance and child cruety. Child Protective Services was contacted to take custody of the infant and three other juveniles found to be living in the apartment. The apartment remains seized and is posted as containing hazardous materials. An investigation of the apartment by the San Bernardino County HazMat Division is pending. Dion and Janiey Augustine are being detained in lieu of $500,000 bail each. Arraignment hearings are scheduled for September 1st at the San Bernardino County Court.
